This past Sunday, August 13, 2023, we geeky dads had the pleasure of setting up our mics at a table at the Dark Arts Festival. Friend of the show and all-around great guy, Josh Dahlin put the whole thing together (hat's off to you, brother, that's no small feat!).
Held at BattlegroundZ in Lincoln RI, the Dark Arts Festival featured dozens and dozens of vendors that included (but was not limited to) oddities, tattooists, artists, writers, filmmakers and even a small Film Fest!! Our own Marc Macrina was there along with his partner-in-artistic-crime, Josh Hurst as they were selling artwork and copies of their indy comic book, Werewolf With A Chainsaw!
We Geeky Dads got the opportunity to meet and interview film-makers such as Mark and Mike of Media House Productions (who were there to promote their independent horror film, Attack of the Killer Refrigerator with a screening of the original short film along with the trailer for it's upcoming sequel. They also brought along with them, the actual Killer-Fridge for photo opportunities!) We also got to meet and interview Sam and Mattie who made their own zombie film, Spring Break Zombie Massacre and the behind-the-scenes documentary, Sam & Mattie made a zombie movie!)
We were so lucky to meet other great people over this 6 hour event, too! People like Harley from Unicorn Ink Tattooing who we struck up a conversation with and (after just a few minutes) we realized we could talk with them all day so we asked if they would like to come over and record with us a bit about The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Room, Shadow-casting both of those great films among other, favorite bad movies, Tommy Weiseau and so much more!
We even met fellow podcaster, Jax, of the Here For The Boos horror podcast. She stopped by our table to chat with us about podcasting, horror movies, and so much more (in hind-sight, we probably should had had her jump behind the mics to chat with us for a while too but, it was a hectic day!) Maybe, sometime soon, we could collaborate as Halloween approaches? Even if that doesn't happen, we're still going to be checking out her great podcast (and you should too).
We also met and interviewed Bryce, who had the table set up across from us. Bryce is a talented young man who utilizes puppets in improvised skits on his YOUTUBE channel. We also found out that Bryce has a HUGE Halloween display at his house in Cranston every year and we want to check it out this fall, if we can!!! And, of course, we were finally able to get Josh Dahlin to stop and talk to us for a few minutes about how he organized and put the Dark Arts Festival together!!!
Anyway, we had a blast...again, many thanks to Josh Dahlin for organizing everything and putting it all together...Josh, you looked like you never stopped all day long, we hope you got some much-needed rest afterwards, brother!!!
